FALL 2010 INTERNSHIP:

Evangelism & Church Planting: Cologne, Germany

MINISTRY HIGHLIGHTS

germany_studentsMore than ever, people in Cologne are open to having spiritual conversations. That’s why it’s a great time to join the GEM Cologne team in reaching out and finding places where God is at work. Missionaries are praying for a spiritual breakthrough in their city; as an intern, you’ll participate in prayerwalking, spiritual mapping, relationship evangelism, and creative outreach. You will participate in the church planting efforts in which the team is involved—among university students, young families, and the artist community. This internship will provide you with a taste of evangelism and church planting in Cologne, Germany as you work alongside GEM missionaries Jason and Sue Holm and a team of fellow interns.

Housing: You will live with your team members in an apartment.

Dates: September 1 – December 15, 2010

Cost: $7,365*

Location

germany_churchRoman soldiers established what is now Cologne shortly after Jesus’ birth. Today the city, home to more than 1 million people, is a leading center for media and the arts. As you walk the streets you’ll find evidence of a rich legacy of Roman rule alongside countless private art galleries and many public museums. This city along the Rhine River hosts northern Europe’s largest Gothic cathedral, which is Germany’s most-visited tourist site.

The people of Cologne love to talk about almost anything, even with strangers. They pride themselves on being tolerant and open to all religions. While about 40 percent of the population claims Catholicism, less than five percent attend church regularly. Muslims are probably the largest group of people who are committed to their faith: at least 10 percent of Cologne’s population are Turkish immigrants. An internship in Cologne provides opportunities to interact with a variety of people, including students at the University of Cologne—Germany’s largest school with 50,000 students. People throughout Cologne are searching for spiritual answers. It’s a key place to get involved because Greater Europe Mission has designated it a Breakthrough City: one on which we will focus prayer, resources, and personnel for the next 24 months. The team of missionaries there is praying and seeking more opportunities to make a difference in this great city.
